Holly hunting

Me with the holly I collected

Me with the holly I collected

We went on a little expedition today to a local woodland – Cnoc Na Coille Dara, part of which is owned by my mum’s family. It’s a lovely example of upland oakwood and still, parts of it at least, are in good condition.

Around the fringes of the woodland, in old hedgerows, are lots of holly trees. It was here that we helped ourselves to a few branches to make some holly wreaths. We were very careful only to take small amounts!

Holly is a native tree my dad tells me – he knows about trees apparently! He wrote the pages here – Grow a Tree with BTCV.

It also has lots more info about how to identify holly or how to grow it.
